Sheena Gao is a highly creative fashion expert with fifteen years of domestic and international experience in the fashion industry, and nine years in team leadership and management positions with a keen sense of trend direction and fashion style. Sheena’s major strengths include fashion conceptual design, styling, brand development, creative direction, fashion show production, fashion editorial, trend research and development, marketing, project management and presentation; process development and implementation; global communication and International alignment. Creative skills include photography, Photoshop, Adobe and InDesign, Possesses highly efficient problem solving skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. A proven record of success as a team player and team leader in achieving creative directions, business objectives and company goals. Sheena is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Shanghainese and English.
After obtaining her Master's Degree in Apparel and Textile at the North Dakota State University, Sheena worked for some of the leading companies in the United States, such as the Target Corporation, Marshall Fields, and Sears and Roebuck Company. Sheena held positions in design, trend, product development, and quality assurance area, where she worked as Fashion Tech Designer, Sr. Color Specialist, Director of Sales, Product Development Color Manager, and Quality Assurance Softlines Coordinator.
During Sheena’s fashion industry career, she has traveled extensively and worked directly with international buying offices and vendors throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Sheena’s global experience has enriched her industry knowledge and expanded her experiences as a fashion industry professional.
After her departure from Sears and Roebuck in 2004, Sheena began her teaching career at the Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago, where she shared her industry experience and passion with the inspiring young fashion professionals of the future. In the summer of 2006 Ms. Gao took on the challenging role as the Director of Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Management for which she relocated from Chicago to San Diego at the Art Institute of California, Gao has established two solid bachelors’ programs to reflect the Art Institute Institute of California’s fashion curriculum as the leader for creative education in the industry. Gao utilized her fifteen years of comprehensive fashion industry experience, as well as working with industry designers and marketers, to develop the program’s strategies reflecting today’s fashion industry needs. Her bachelor’s degree program has taken the San Diego fashion to a new height. After a successful three-year run as the Fashion Academic Director along with a highly successful fashion show that drew nearly 1000 audience nation wide, which included designers from Project Runway, Calvin Klein, BCBG, Timberland, Guess?, St. John’s Knits, and Ashworth, Gao decided to return to the classroom as fashion instructor, and took on a freelance Creative Consultant role at Rosaline Jewelry.
In 2011, Gao launched the lifestyle fashion label International Citizen [i.CTZN] iwww.ictzn.com, became successful after its debut in OC Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week and having been featured as a new designer at 2011’s MAGIC, Apparel News, OC Weekly, The OC County Register, Style Binge, Coastal Magazine, 944, as well as blogger LA Fashion Snob.com Most recently, Gao has working as a wardrobe stylist/costume designer for Collaboration Factory, a Los Angeles based production Company, on high profile projects with Capitol Records, Interscope Records, Rocket in My Pocket Production, and the Shaping Sound Dance Company, among others.
